New Delhi: Several parts in upper Assam have been severely affected by a massive hailstorm that caused damaged to over 4,400 houses in four districts, officials informed on Tuesday.

A report of the Asssam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has stated that 4,483 houses have been destroyed badly in 132 villages in the districts of Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Sivasagar, and Tinsukia.

The hailstorm hit the districts on late Monday and early Tuesday.

Taking note of the matter, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma “have instructed officials to make a detailed assessment of the damages caused. Government is extending all possible help to all those affected by it.”

Meanwhile, the report also mentioned that around 18,000 individuals have been impacted when the hailstorm hit.

It is worth noting that it is unlikely to witness such storm in the area which has affected crops as well.

Meanwhile, the Guwahati Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a “Yellow Alert” for the entire northeast while also predicting isolted thunderstorms, lightening and hail.

“Light to moderate rain is very likely at a few places over the rest of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura,” read the report.
