Married To Hemant, ‘Friend’ To Ashraf, Chopped Body Found In Fridge, Who Was Mahalakshmi?

A body chopped and stored in a fridge in 40 pieces has stirred Bengaluru and other states across India. Who was Mahalakshmi?

Bengaluru: A smelly room locked for days stirred the neighbours to contact the landlord. What was found upon unlocking the door left everyone in shock – pieces of flesh scattered on the floor, blood stains everywhere and the refrigerator packed with around 40 pieces. These pieces were of a human body, chopped so small that recognizing the person became next to impossible. Upon rigorous investigation, the deceased was identified as Mahalakshmi. But who was she? Why was she killed? Who chopped her brutally? All questions remained in a queue for the police to find out.

Married and moved to Bengaluru

As per police reports, Mahalakshmi was a girl from Nepal who came to Bengaluru in 2019 in search of work. The mother of the deceased told police that Mahalakshmi used to live with their family till 2019. After getting married to Hemant Das, a Nepali man, the couple moved to Bengaluru for work.

While Hemant got a job at a mobile phone shop, Mahalakshmi was absorbed at a cosmetic shop in a mall as a sales team leader. Both lived happily and the couple gave birth to a baby girl. Life was blooming till 2023 but fate perhaps had other plans.

Love triangle? Who was Ashraf?

Hemant and Mahalakshmi started living separately after a verbal spat that erupted due to a ‘love triangle’. Mahalakshmi had an alleged affair with an Uttarakhand-based hairdresser Ashraf which stirred frequent fights amongst the married couple. As per Hemant’s statement, it was the reason behind their separation. However, their child remained with Hemant and Mahalakshmi used to make a visit fortnightly or monthly to see her daughter.

In further investigation, police came across the CDR of Mahalakshmi’s phone only to find that no call was made to anyone from the device after September 2. This information led them to analyze that the woman was murdered on September 2 or 3. Her husband and ‘friend’ were interrogated by the investigating team but nothing from their mobile phone location or call details could establish their involvement in the crime.
