Delhi Liquor Policy Case: AAP leader and former deputy CM of Delhi Manish Sisodia walked out of Tihar Jail today, 9th August after the SC ordered his release on bail in the Delhi Excise Policy case. He was released after a long period of detention, with Sisodia being detained since he was arrested by the CBI on 26 February 2023. He was later arrested by ED in March 2023.
As Sisodia stepped out of jail, AAP members and supporters waiting outside the jail shouted slogans in his praise. Releasing his first public statement after being released, Sisodia was extremely thankful, stating, ‘Ever since this order came in the morning, every inch of my skin has been feeling indebted to Babasaheb (BR Ambedkar). I don’t understand how will pay off this debt to Babasaheb.’

Sisodia certainly did not pull any punches in his speech against the ruling BJP government. He said that the Constitution would act like a shield against the “politically motivated” actions of the BJP. He expressed confidence that Delhi CM Kejriwal would soon be released from remand and started chanting, ‘Jail ke taale tootenge, Kejriwal chhootenge’ which translates to “The prison locks will break, and Kejriwal will be freed.”.

He reiterated the role that public support, divine blessings, and the power of truth played in securing his release. Sisodia drew attention to the vision expressed by Babasaheb Ambedkar, who foresaw protection for opposition leaders against unjust laws that dictatorial governments may impose. He felt confident that this same protective power would facilitate Kejriwal’s release.
A little while after being released, Sisodia reached Arvind Kejriwal’s residence and met with Kejriwal’s family, including his wife Sunita Kejriwal. This visit marked a significant moment for Sisodia that bound him even closer to his political ally and friend.
