New Delhi: The Manipur police informed that all the four accused in a case relating to stripping off two women and carry out a procession of them in the state, have been remanded to 11-day custody, informed the officials.
All four accused were produced in the court earlier in the day. Soon after the video of sexual violence with two women from Kuki community went viral on the social media, drawing global embarassment, the police launched an operation to nab the accused.
Police nabbed 4 accused by Thursday
The state police held all four accused, incuding the prime one Huirem Herodas by Thursday. Herodas can be seen in the 26-seconds-long clip groping the woman without clothes, inappropriately. Apart from this, 12 other accused from the video have been marked and efforts are being made to nab those as well.
As many as 12 combined teams of Manipur police and Central forces are occupied in the case to catch other accused. As per the police, Herodas provoked the crowd to take out the procession with the victims.
Women stripped and forced to walk down Road
The video emerged this week and sent shockwaves throughout the nation, in which girls from Kuki community were forced to strip by armed men. As per a report by the Indian Express, one of the victims alleged that the police were with the mob who let the latter take away the girls.
The Manipur police earlier posted a tweet and said, “A case of abduction, gang-rape and murder was filed at Nongpok Sekmai police station (Thoubal district) in a case relating to the viral videos of two women paraded without clothes by unknown armed miscreants on May 4. Probe is on.”
It added that the state police is making all-out efforts to arrest the culprits at the earliest.
