Imphal: An incident of unknown assailants shooting and killing a woman outside a school has emerged from West Imphal’s, Manipur on Thursday. According to police sources, the identity of the victim and the community she belonged to has not been established yet. It’s worth noting that schools in Manipur were reopened just one day prior after a gap of two months.
The incident took place near the Shishu Nistha Niketan school. This incident has caused panic in the area. The woman’s murder occurred amid ongoing clashes related to ethnic tensions in the state that have been ongoing for over two months. Earlier in the day, security forces successfully thwarted a clash between two armed groups in the Kangpokpi district of Manipur.
In another development, miscreants set fire to the house of an Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel in Thoubal district on Wednesday. It should be mentioned that in a separate incident of violence, the Indian Reserve Battalion had earlier foiled the attempts of armed miscreants to loot weapons.
During the confrontation between the police and miscreants, a scuffle broke out between the two groups. One of the miscreants lost his life during the scuffle. The deceased miscreant has been identified as 27-year-old Ronaldo. Additionally, 10 people sustained injuries during the clash, out of which six are in critical condition and undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The state of Manipur has been plagued by violence in recent times, with recurring incidents leading to a volatile atmosphere. Ethnic tensions and clashes between various groups have contributed to the unrest. The violence has resulted in tragic loss of lives, displacement of communities, and widespread fear among the residents.
