Manipur Violence: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday rubbished the Congress allegation of having any links with Manipur's Kuki militant outfit. He added that the claims made against him by the party are baseless. Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress president Meera Borthakur Goswami had alleged that a leader of the Kuki insurgent group had written to Home Minister Amit Shah that the Kuki insurgent organization had 'helped' the BJP in the 2017 Manipur assembly elections. According to reports, Meera Borthakur Goswami submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Director General of Police of the state. Also demanded an inquiry into the allegations by the police. Let us tell you that recently, Assam Congress chief Bhupen Bora has demanded the arrest of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Bora said that Himanta Sarma should be arrested under the National Security Act (NSA) for taking the help of Kuki militant group leaders for the Manipur elections. According to a report, United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) president SS Haokip wrote a letter to Amit Shah in 2019. The letter claimed that Himanta Biswa Sarma and Ram Madhav had taken help from some Kuki groups to win the assembly elections in 2017. The letter claimed that two BJP leaders (Himanta Biswa Sarma and Ram Madhav) were in charge. The BJP came to power in Manipur for the first time in 2017 and formed the government under the leadership of Chief Minister N Biren Singh. Sources said Himanta Biswa Sarma was scheduled to visit Manipur on Wednesday but the trip was canceled at the last moment. It is not known whether the cancellation of Sarma's visit was related to the latest allegations.
