In a shocking incident, a 31-year-old woman has been allegedly shot, raped and burnt alive by militants in a tribal village in Jiribam district of Manipur. The incident occurred on Thursday night after militants had attacked the village. The woman is said to be mother of three and worked as teacher at a village school. The village is dominated by the members of Hmar community.
Woman’s husband filed the complaint and alleged that she was raped before being set on fire. Police is making efforts to send the remains of victim to Silchar in Assam for forensic tests because of inadequate facilities in the village. Hindustan Times reported that the man in his complaint mentioned that his wife, mother of three was brutally murdered (raped and burnt alive) on the night of 7th November, 2024, at their residence located at Jairolpokpi (Zairawn), Jiribam, by fully armed Meitei militants. “My house was also looted and burnt down,” added the man.
What Did The Police Say?
Jiribam Police have registered the case and added rape charges after man’s complaint. It’s been informed that Jiribam SP Khamnam Robinsun Singh has written to district magistrate Krishna Kumar on Friday, seeking permission for the post-mortem examination to be conducted in the Silchar as Jiribam did not have a “proper facility of forensic medicine” and it was “inconvenient” to transport the body to Imphal.
The assailants were armed with weapons and had invaded the village and terrorised the villagers. As per media reports, the attacker set ablaze 17 dwellings after gunfight with the community and looted valuables.
