Imphal: In a heart-wrenching incident, the lifeless body of Indian Army Sepoy Serto Thangthang Komwas was discovered in the village of Khuningthek, located in Manipur’s Imphal East district. The soldier, belonging to the Army’s Defence Security Corps (DSC) platoon stationed at Leimakhong in Kangpokpi district, met an unfortunate fate while on leave. Hailing from Tarung in Imphal West, Sepoy Komwas’ demise has left a community in mourning.
A mysterious abduction
The tragic episode began when unidentified armed individuals abducted Sepoy Komwas from his residence at approximately 10 am on a fateful Saturday. The sole eyewitness to this harrowing crime was his own 10-year-old son, who recounted the horrifying ordeal. Three assailants forcefully entered their home while father and son were working on the porch. The armed men, brandishing a pistol, menacingly coerced Sepoy Komwas into a white vehicle before making a swift escape.
A grief-stricken community
The family endured an agonizing wait for any news of Sepoy Komwas. Tragically, their worst fears were confirmed when, around 9:30 am on Sunday, his lifeless body was discovered at Khuningthek village, east of Mongjam under Sogolmang PS in Imphal East. Authorities reported that the soldier had sustained a single gunshot wound to the head. His identity was officially confirmed by his brother and brother-in-law, who arrived at the scene.
A sorrowful farewell
Sepoy Komwas leaves behind a grieving family, including his wife, daughter, and the young son who bravely bore witness to the tragedy. The last rites will be performed in accordance with the family’s wishes, with the Indian Army providing essential support during this difficult time.
