Manipur: In fresh violence, three mutilated bodies of youth were found in Kuki Thowai village in Manipur’s Ukhrul district following heavy firing in the area, according to the officials.

As per the senior official, privy to the development, fresh violence broke out in Manipur following which three mutilated bodies were found. The reason behind the death of the youths is not ascertained.

Three people went missing after sounds of heavy gunfire were heard coming from the village. The victims have been identified as Hollenson Baite (24) Jamkhogin Haokip (26), and Thangkhokai Haokip (35), India Today reported.

What caused violence in the state

The state’s harmony was first disturbed on May 3, when violence broke out in Churchandpur, a town located just south of the state capital Imphal. After the disruption, the ethnic group Kuki commenced a solidarity march in ten out of the state’s sixteen districts.

In response, when another ehnic group Meitei organised counter-protests and blockades, clashes spurred across Manipur.

Around 150 people have lost their life because of the clash between the Meitei and Kuki ethnic groups. On the other hand, thousands have faced several injuries and more than 60,000 displaced by the violence. Apart from this, more than 12,000 have fled to the neighbouring Mizoram state.

Recent events, including the influx of Myanmar refugees and the state government’s drive to oust tribal communities from woodland, exposed old faultlines and reignited violence. The presence of arms in both groups and the failure of peace talks with Myanmar leaders have hampered efforts to restore peace in the region.

A Shift Towards BJP's Aggressive Hindutva Amid Opposition's Leadership Crisis

The Maharashtra election may further push the Congress down as it has lost the election at a time when it needed a win most desperately. Though the Congress succeeded in pushing the BJP to a corner and stopping it at less than a majority on its own, it failed to make any headway further.
