Manipur: 5.6 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Imphal & Other Northeastern States

An earthquake of magnitude 5.6 jolted Imphal on Wednesday morning with tremors felt in Assam and several Northeastern States, the United States Geological Survey reported.

Imphal Earthquake: An earthquake of magnitude 5.6 jolted Imphal on Wednesday morning with tremors felt in Assam and several Northeastern States, the United States Geological Survey reported. The earthquake struck at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Imphal in Manipur. It was located 29 km from Chongdan, Manipur. India and Myanmar were the affected countries by the 5.6 magnitude earthquake. Reportedly, two back-to-back earthquakes shook Manipur.

The first quake occurred at 11:06 am, followed by second of 4.1 magnitude at 12:20 pm. It struck Kamjong district at a depth of 66km.
