The Bishnupur district has been the most sensitive area since the beginning of the ethnic violence as it has proximity to both the Meiti and Kuki communities, said sources.

The Manipur has been burning for the past 2 months and all the efforts to maintain peace is being not paying off.

The violence erupted in the first week of May after people from the Kuki community staged a protest against the issuance of Schedule Cast status to the majority Meiti community. The protest turned into an ethnic war between the two communities.
