Haryana: Police officials apprehended a man on Monday for disseminating a morphed video featuring an Olympian woman wrestler.
The police asserted that the brief 30-second video in question bore no connection to the female wrestler, whose name the accused had misused during its circulation.
Amit, the accused hailing from Hisar district, found himself in custody after the wrestler’s father filed a complaint with the Jind police, as confirmed by a senior police official.
The police official clarified over the phone that the accused used a morphed photo of the wrestler in the 30-second video. The video, in actuality, depicted a different man and woman. The man in the footage clarified that he was with his female friend, emphasizing that the woman portrayed in the circulated video is not the wrestler. Furthermore, he asserted that he had never even met the wrestler.

When asked about the accused’s motives, the police official responded, “We will seek his remand from a court on Tuesday and question him.”
The individual in question faces charges under apposite sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act.
In a recent similar incident, a minor girl in Bareilly poisoned herself after a man allegedly circulated a morphed video of her on social media. Subsequently, consequent to protests, a case was registered against the accused under pertinent sections of the IPC. Moreover, he was apprehended for his heinous act.
