On Saturday, the Bihar Police arrested Mahesh Pandey, accused of issuing a death threat to independent Lok Sabha MP Pappu Yadav from Purnea. The arrest was made possible through technical surveillance that led authorities to track him down in Delhi. During interrogation, Pandey confessed to the crime, claiming he acted independently and was not part of any gang.

Background: Yadav’s Challenge to Notorious Gangster

The situation unfolded on October 28, when Pappu Yadav received a threatening phone call after he openly criticized Lawrence Bishnoi, a gangster currently incarcerated in Gujarat. Yadav had previously stated that if legally allowed, he could dismantle Bishnoi’s criminal network within a day.

Investigation Into Motives

According to Purnea’s Superintendent of Police, Kartikeya Sharma, Pandey’s actions appeared to be motivated by Yadav’s vocal challenge against Bishnoi. The investigation is ongoing, and police have confiscated Pandey’s phone and SIM card, believed to have been used during the threatening call.

Yadav Calls for Enhanced Security

In light of the threat, Pappu Yadav has requested an upgrade to his security level from ‘Y’ to ‘Z,’ appealing to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He has also asked for a police escort at public events across Bihar, warning that if any harm befalls him, both the state and central governments would be accountable.

Addressing Rising Security Issues

Pandey’s arrest is a significant development in this high-profile case, reflecting heightened concerns about gang-related threats in Bihar. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the threat and any potential ties to larger criminal organizations.
