Renowned YouTuber Sourav Joshi, from Haldwani in Uttarakhand, allegedly received a death threat from an individual claiming to be part of the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The threat came through a letter demanding ₹2 crore in ransom, failing which Joshi and his family were warned of dire consequences.
Swift Police Action
Following Joshi’s complaint, the police formed a special team, and on Monday, they arrested Arun Kumar, a resident of Fatehganj Bisauli in Uttar Pradesh, from Rampur Road in Haldwani. Nainital SSP Prahlad Narayan Meena revealed that the accused had no actual links to the Bishnoi gang and acted alone to extort money.
During interrogation, Kumar admitted he fabricated the gang connection to make quick money. He had previously worked as a security guard in Mohali, Punjab, but was fired, leading him to this desperate act.

The Threat Letter
The letter, addressed to Joshi, read:
“Namaste, Sourav Joshi. I am Karan Bishnoi from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Our boss, Lawrence Bishnoi, has ordered you to pay ₹2 crore in cash to our gang. If you fail to comply, you or your family members will be killed. You have five days to respond. Do not contact the police, or your family will face the consequences. We have provided our Instagram ID for further communication.”
Police Investigation
The police are investigating the case with cybercrime experts analyzing the Instagram ID mentioned in the letter. CCTV footage and other evidence were used to track down Arun Kumar.
SP City Prakash Chandra assured Joshi of full support and security. “We are taking the case very seriously given the association of the Bishnoi gang in the threat letter. Joshi and his family are under police protection,” he said.
