Mamata Banerjee Urges UN Peacekeepers In Bangladesh, Seeks PM Modi’s Intervention For Minority Safety

Speaking to ANI, Mamata Banerjee said that, "We do not want any religion to be harmed. I have spoken to ISKCON here.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee calls for the UN peacekeepers in Bangladesh. She has also demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in this matter and secure the safety of religious minority in Bangladesh, as per media reports.

The demand from her came after the reports of arrest of three Hindu Priest, who are from ISKCON. During the West Bengal Assembly winter session, Mamata Banerjee said that, The Indian Government can take this issue up with the UN. So a peacekeeping force can be sent to Bangladesh.

She also mentioned that, “We have families… properties… and loved ones in Bangladesh. We accept whatever stance the Government of India takes on this…but we condemn atrocities on religious grounds anywhere in the world and appeal to the union government, and the Prime Minister, to intervene.”

As per media reports, Mamata Banerjee stated that, she had a word with ISKCON Kolkata unit Chief. She said that we are not going to tolerate is the Indians in Bangladesh are attached.

Speaking to ANI, Mamata Banerjee said that, “We do not want any religion to be harmed. I have spoken to ISKCON here. Since this is a matter of another country, the Central government should take relevant action on this. We are with them (Central government) on this issue.”
