The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), Maharashtra’s opposition alliance, has promised to conduct a caste census and increase the state’s reservation cap if it secures victory in the upcoming assembly elections. At the launch of MVA’s election manifesto, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized that the caste census aims to enhance equity by understanding the socio-economic positioning of communities. The alliance plans to raise the reservation cap above the current 50 percent limit, similar to Tamil Nadu’s model.
