Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday, hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement where he called out Congress’ ‘Unreal’ and ‘Fake’ promises. After PM called Congress’ promises as ‘Fake,’ Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge took to X and slammed BJP over their schemes. He launched a scathing attack against PM Modi and wrote, “Lies, Deceit, Fakery, Loot & Publicity are the 5 adjectives which best describe your Govt!”
He called PM’s 100-day plan as a cheap PR stunt. He even defined BJP and said, “The ‘B’ in BJP stands for Betrayal, while the ‘J’ stands for JUMLA! – Setting the record straight.” Kharge then posted series of questions over unemployment, inflation, ‘achhe din’, viksit Bharat, and other schemes. He added, “46% increase in crimes against SCs, while 48% increase in crimes against STs. Crimes against SC/ST women and children saw a 1.7 time increase in 2022 as compared to 2014. (NCRB) Snatching Govt jobs from SC, ST, OBC & EWS communities by 91% increase in Casual/Contract hiring.”
Kharge called BJP’s promises as jumla and targeted schemes of government. “JUMLA of doubling Income of Farmers by 2022. Refusing Legal Guarantee for MSP. GST on 35 Farm articles. Turning permanent recruitment to Armed Forces to a temporary one through Agnipath,” said Congress President.
Ending his series of questions, Kharge advised PM Modi to be cautious before finger-pointing. He wrote, “Modi ji, before finger-pointing, please note that – MODI KI GUARANTEE is a cruel joke on 140 Crore Indians!”

‘Fake Promises Of Congress,’ Says PM Modi
Following the contrasting statements of Congress leaders on poll guarantees, BJP leaders jumped in to attack Congress and cited the internal rift in the party. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also launched attack on Congress and called its promise ‘unreal.’ PM Modi took to X and wrote, “The Congress Party is realising the hard way that making unreal promises is easy but implementing them properly is tough or impossible. Campaign after campaign they promise things to the people, which they also know they will never be able to deliver. Now, they stand badly exposed in front of the people! #FakePromisesOfCongress.”

How Did The Row Over Poll-Promise Erupt?
Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge’s advice to party’s units going on poll had ignited controversy and invited attacks form the BJP. During a press conference, Kharge emphasised on careful considerations and warned that an unplanned approach could lead to financial difficulties and negatively impact future generations. He advised the Congress units to announce guarantees on the basis of their budget.
He highlighted the importance of fiscal responsibility and stated that if the government fails to deliver on its commitments, it could result in a bad reputation and hardships for the community.
“In Maharashtra I’ve said that they shouldn’t announce 5, 6, 10 or 20 guarantees. They should announce guarantees based on budget. Otherwise, there’ll be bankruptcy. If there’s no money for roads, everyone will turn against you. If this government fails, the future generation will be left with nothing but a bad name. They’ll have to live in exile for 10 years,” said Congress National President.
Kharge’s statement and caution came after the Congress government in Karnataka suggested that it could review the Shakti scheme which ensured free buss transport for women.
However, clearing the air of confusion on Shakti scheme after the row erupted over it, Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said, “There is no confusion about the Shakti scheme. The BJP is creating confusion. Some individuals are employed and receive a transport allowance from their company, so they question why they need this scheme when they can afford it. However, there are no plans or proposals to drop any of the schemes.”
