CWC Rejig: Congress Party Chief Mallikarjun Karge on Sunday reshuffled the Congress working committee (CWC). Kharge played a key role in balancing the pressure of the groups and the aspirations of the important leaders. The reshuffle came ahead of the general election in 2024.
In a major first reshuffle, Kharge brings young, energetic and promising leaders to the front. Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi has always advised pushing young leaders on the front with the experience of experienced leaders. Kharge managed to balance the rejig by giving space to almost all the leaders of the G-23 group, from Anand Sharma to Mukul Wasnik.
Kharge accommodated leaders who were not given any important positions and are the loyalists of Gandhi family.
It is noted that 23 rebel leaders rocked the Congress in August 2020 seeking major changes in party’s organisational structure through the letter. Somehow, the party had managed to win the majority over them. The CWC has accommodated at least five eminent leaders of the erstwhile rebel group.
Prominent leader Sharma has been included in the Congress Working Committee though he was not renominated to Rajya Sabha. Another former G23 leader Manish Tiwari has been retained in the Party’s organizational body. Even Wasnik and former Karnataka chief minister M Veerappa Moily, who once were sidelined, got a place in the CWC. Another renowned leader of Tharoor who was the core member of G23 has been nominated to the top body.
These changes in the CWC clearly indicate that Kharge wants to start fresh by forgetting all the past happenings.
Sashi’s Tharoor inclusion in the CWC also paved the way for another top leader from Ramesh Chennithala, to be included as a permanent invitee.
