New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is “deliberately” raising slogans against interim chief of the grand-old party, Sonia Gandhi, to avoid discussion on the issues like inflation.
The BJP has been demanding an apology from Sonia Gandhi and Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury over remarks of the latter on President Draupadi Murmu.
The Congress leader said, “Adhir Chowdhury has apologised for his remark. Even after that BJP is demanding an apology from Sonia Gandhi, raising slogans against her. They are doing this deliberately so that they don’t have to discuss issues like price rise and inflation.”
It should be noted that Leader of Opposition (LOP) in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, was barred to speak and put his “legitimate point” amid the chaos created inside the Parliament following an uproar by BJP leaders.
Karnataka Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh took to the Twitter to say: “Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge ji not allowed to raise a legitimate point of order in the Rajya Sabha because of hungama by BJP MPs and Ministers.”

While talking to media persons earlier, Chowdhury addressed the President as “Rashtrapatni” that followed a backlash. However, he later apologised admitting that he “mistakenly” said this.
National Commission for Women (NCW) Intervenes
Following the row over “Rashtrapati” comment, National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday summoned Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on August 3. The NCW has sought a written explanation over the derogatory remarks of the latter.
The national commission also asked the Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi to intervene in the matter while demanding an action against Chowdhury for his derogatory remark.
