Haridwar: A potential accident was averted in Haridwar when a man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly placing detonators on the Haridwar-Dehradun railway track in Uttarakhand. Officials reported that the Haridwar Government Railway Police (GRP) received information on Sunday night from the control room of the Moradabad Railway Division that detonators had been spotted near Moti Chur railway station.
Upon receiving the tip-off, a GRP team immediately rushed to the spot and removed the detonators.

CCTV Tracks The Suspect
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sarita Dobha, the CCTV captured a man moving suspiciously near the railway tracks. Police identified the suspect as Ashok, a resident of Rampur in Uttar Pradesh of being involved in the incident. He was later arrested, news agency PTI reported.
Investigation Underway
Several detonators were recovered from Ashok, and a case has been filed against him, reports added. A probe into the matter is underway.
Similar Incident In The Past
A massive train disaster was averted in September near Perambur Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh. The loco-pilot of a goods train applied emergency breaks after finding an LPG cylinder lying on the railway tracks. The train was en route from Kanpur to Prayagraj. The cylinder was immediately removed from the tracks.
“Very Sensitive Issue” Says Ashwini Yadav
In light of the increase in derailment incidents, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had said, “This is a very sensitive issue, and we are conducting thorough inquiries into such incidents. We have noticed a disturbing trend in several cases that must be seriously addressed.”
