Ratnagiri: A 19-year-old nursing student was allegedly drugged and raped by an auto-rickshaw driver while returning home from college in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district, according to police reports. The driver reportedly offered the student spiked water, and when she lost consciousness, he took her to a secluded location and assaulted her.
After regaining consciousness, the survivor contacted her family, who subsequently filed a police complaint. The police are actively searching for the driver, using CCTV footage to assist in the investigation. The survivor is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Public Outrage and Protests
The incident has ignited widespread protests in Ratnagiri, with citizens blocking roads and demanding justice for the young woman. The case has drawn significant attention, coinciding with national protests over the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College, raising concerns about the safety of healthcare workers especially during late night shifts.
