Maharashtra School Bandh TODAY Reason: All Schools, colleges to be closed today, December 5 due to THIS

Schools and colleges across Maharashtra will remain closed on December 5 as the Principals’ Association holds a statewide strike over long-pending demands, prompting district-wide marches and postponement of academic activities.

A statewide strike called by the Maharashtra State Principals’ Association has led to the closure of schools and colleges across the state on December 5, 2025. The announcement came after a key meeting held in Pune, where the association finalised its decision to hold marches and demonstrations at all district collector offices.

The strike is expected to affect thousands of students, teachers, and parents, as both teaching and non-teaching staff are participating.

Why Schools Will Remain Closed Today

According to the association, several long-pending demands related to teachers’ service conditions, workload, and infrastructure support have not been addressed, despite repeated letters and meetings with government officials.

School principals say they have been raising these issues for months, but with no concrete response from the state government, the strike became unavoidable.

Union representatives claim that many administrative and financial issues are directly affecting the smooth functioning of schools. These include delayed approvals, staff shortages, and demands related to pay and working conditions. The December 5 strike is being organized to push the government to take immediate action.

March to District Collector Offices

On the day of the strike, principals, teachers, and non-teaching staff will gather in their respective districts and march to the district collector’s office. The strike is expected to be peaceful but widespread, as the association has members in nearly every district.

Local education officers have also been informed about the planned demonstration, and security arrangements are expected to be made.

Schools have already begun sending messages to parents about the closure. Several institutions have also postponed classes, practicals, and internal exams scheduled for December 5.

Parents have been advised to make alternative arrangements for their children, as full school operations including office work, administration, and support services will remain suspended during the strike.

Officials from the State Education Department are expected to release further guidelines soon, especially regarding rescheduling of exams and compensatory classes.

What Parents Should Know

For now, parents are urged to check official notices from their child’s school and avoid relying on unverified messages circulating on social media. Most schools are expected to resume regular functioning from December 6, unless further action is announced by the association or government.
