The Maharashtra Police on Monday arrested a journalist for making derogatory comments about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his son, Sambhaji Maharaj. The journalist was arrested from Telangana.
A police officer said Nagpur journalist Prashant Koratkar has been arrested from Telangana and he is being brought back to Maharashtra, according to news agency PTI.
The Senior Superintendent of Police said Koratkar has been brought back to Kolhapur and the due process will follow.
The journalist was booked on February 26 after he had a conversation with historian Indrajeet Sawant. He was booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for promoting enmity in society.
Koratkar approached a sessions court where he got protection on his arrest till March 1. Later, the Kolhapur police moved the Bombay High Court.
The High Court ordered the sessions court to take up the matter. Later, the session court rejected Koratkar’s anticipatory bail.
Koratkar claimed that he had apologised for the issue that his phone was compromised and the audio doctored. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis already refuted allegations that police are trying to protect Koratkar. He had said the cops were looking for him and he would be arrested soon.
