A 22-year-old medical student was allegedly drugged and rapped in Maharashtra’s Sangli district by two of her classmates and one of their friends after they spiked her drink. The three accused, hailing from Pune, Solapur, and Sangli, have reportedly been arrested, as per a police official.
The court has approved police custody for the accused until May 27, an official stated. According to police, on May 18, around 10 pm, when the MBBS student had a movie outing with the accused, she was targeted. Before that, he took her to a flat for a short respite.
According to media reports, the accused was drunk and offered a spiked drink to the victim. The survivor told the police that she felt giddy after consuming the drink. The three, all between the ages of 20 and 22, then are said to have sexually assaulted her and warned her not to talk about it. After the incident was over, the survivor from Belagavi told her parents what happened to her, so they went to the Vishrambag police station. They have been arrested under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for gang rape and additional charges. The complainant’s statement is being examined by police, and an investigation is underway.
