Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Tuesday announced that the state government will celebrate Hindu ideologue VD Savarkar‘s birth anniversary on May 28 as “Swatantraveer Gaurav Din”.
In a series of tweets, the CM said that “various programs will be organized for the propagation of the ideas of Swatantra Veer Savarkar.”
He said, “Swatantra Veer Savarkar has made a great contribution for the country’s independence and national development. Industries Minister Uday Samant had demanded to celebrate ‘Swatantryaveer Gaurav Din’ to salute his patriotism, courage and progressive thoughts.”
Recently in Maharashtra, a huge controversy broke out following remarks of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Due to which, the Congress leader had to face a backlash by the party’s ally in the state: Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shv Sena.

Following his remarks over Savarkar, former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray skipped a crucial dinner by the grand-old party of the like-minded Opposition leader.

Rahul Gandhi had said, “My name is not Savarkar. I am a Gandhi. I won’t apologise” while addressing a press conference after being disqualified from Lok Sabha.
