The office of Maharashtra’s chief electoral officer on Monday said the electoral roles were shared with all recognised parties including Congress twice. In a tweet, the CEO said the exercise was done in 2009, 2014, 2019, and 2024.
Rahul demanded EC to publish digital, machine-readable voter rolls
The tweet came in response after Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi called upon the Election Commission to publish consolidated, digital, machine-readable voter rolls for the most recent elections to the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabhas of all states, including Maharashtra.
Chief Electoral Officer, Maharashtra posted on X, “Electoral Rolls are revised annually through a participatory exercise. During this annual exercise, the Electoral Rolls are shared, free of cost, with recognized political parties, including Congress, first at the draft stage and second time after its finalisation. The similar exercise was done in 2009, 2014, 2019, and 2024 and copies of such electoral rolls were then shared with Congress, as well as with other political parties…”

‘Releasing unsigned, evasive notes to intermediaries is not the way to respond’
On June 7, in a post on X, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, referred to the ECI’s response to his allegations concerning the Maharashtra polls and said, “Releasing unsigned, evasive notes to intermediaries is not the way to respond to serious questions.”

In response, ECI described Rahul Gandhi’s Maharashtra election poll rigging as “unsubstantiated allegations.”
“Unsubstantiated allegations against the Electoral Rolls of Maharashtra are an affront to the rule of law. The Election Commission had brought out all these facts in its reply to the INC on 24th December 2024, which is available on ECI’s website. It appears that all these facts are completely being ignored while raising such issues repeatedly,” it said.
