Maharashtra Award felicitation ceremony: At the Maharashtra Bhushan Award ceremony in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai on Sunday, 11 people died due to heat stroke, while around 120 people were admitted to the hospital due to ill health. Maharashtra CMO said in a statement late on Sunday night that 11 people died due to heatstroke during the Maharashtra Bhushan award ceremony at Kharghar in Navi Mumbai.
According to news agency ANI, people suffering from heatstroke were taken to Tata Hospital in Kharghar for medical help. After the incident, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde went to meet those admitted in the hospital. The Chief Minister announced that Rs 5 lakh would be given to the families of the deceased and proper treatment would also be ensured for those who are admitted.
Chief Minister Shinde said that the treatment of people affected by heat stroke would be free. The state government will provide treatment to the victims. The chief minister also directed officials to shift patients to specialized hospitals if they needed additional treatment.
CM Shinde gave information and said that lakhs of people had come for the programme. Some of them died which is very painful. He said that a Deputy Municipal Commissioner level officers and medical teams of the Panvel Municipal Corporation have been deputed to coordinate with the victims and relatives of the deceased and give timely updates.
Maharashtra Bhushan Award Ceremony details
The event was organized in honor of Maharashtra Bhushan awardee social activist Dattatreya Narayan alias Appasaheb Dharmadhikari. Some patients are on ventilators in hospitals in Navi Mumbai and Panvel city and their condition is being monitored, a police official said.
People started gathering for the program from Sunday morning itself. The program started at around 11.30 am and went on till around 1 pm. Lakhs of people attended the programme. The ground was full of people. According to media reports, seating arrangements were made in the open for the people gathered in the ground.
