Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024 LIVE Updates: Maharashtra is gearing up for a smooth electoral process as the state prepares for voting today. With polling started at 7 AM, security arrangements have been tightened across polling booths to ensure a peaceful and orderly voting experience for all citizens. All 288 constituencies of Maharashtra will go to polls today in a high-stakes clash between the ruling Mahayuti alliance and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). Voter turnout remains a critical focus, with both the Election Commission and local initiatives urging citizens to exercise their franchise.
In the ruling Mahayuti alliance, the Bharatiya Janata Party is contesting on 149 seats, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena on 81 seats, while Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party is in the fray for 59 constituencies. Meanwhile, the opposition Congress will contest on 101 seats, Uddhav’s Shiv Sena has fielded candidates on 95 seats, and Sharad Pawar’s NCP on 86 seats.
Key leaders in the fray include Chief Minister Eknath Shinde from Kopri—Pachpakhadi, who faces Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Kedar Prakash Dighe. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is contesting from his stronghold, Nagpur South West, against Congress’ Prafulla Gudadhe. Meanwhile, NCP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is vying to retain Baramati, a traditional stronghold of the Pawar family, against Yungendra Pawar of NCP (SP)
