A disturbing incident from Madhya Pradesh has drawn attention due to its chilling details. A 35-year-old woman was brutally murdered in Navara, under the Nepanagar Police Station area, for allegedly refusing to convert to Islam and marry the lover who had been pressuring her to convert.
The victim, Bhagyashree Namdev Dhanuk, was attacked inside her home by Sheikh Raees (42). The alleged attacker slit her throat and stabbed her multiple times, according to NDTV. After the attack, the assailant left her dead on the spot. The police were able to arrest him within a few hours of the crime.
The victim’s sister, Shubadra, said, “Raees used to grab her hair, beat her, harass her, and had been pressuring her for marriage and religious conversion for a long time.” She further stated that upon refusing the conversion, he entered the house and slit her throat.
The incident has sparked outrage in the Hindu community. Amit Varude, representing the protestors, called it a case of so-called “love jihad.” The victim had filed a complaint just three days ago, but the accused was released.
Former cabinet minister Archana Chitnis visited the grieving family and demanded strict action against the negligence shown by the police.
The police have marked the accused’s illegal properties and taken further cognizance of the matter. markets in Nepanagar and Navara remained closed on Saturday following the uproar that the case has caused. Raees, who operates a dairy in the Matapur market, is reportedly known for his controversial activities. His wife has separated from him, and a maintenance case is pending against him as well.
