Indore: In a brutal incident, a teenager was allegedly beaten to death inside a police station in the Indore district of Madhya Pradesh.

According to reports, the incident took place at Manpur village. The victim has been identified as Arjun Singare, 19-year-old from Manpur.

Five policemen were suspended after the custodial death of the youth emerged in the media. Those suspended include three officers. Vijay Sisodiya, officer in-charge of Manpur police station has been taken off duty.

Indore rural SP Bhagwat Singh Virde claimed that the youth has been arrested along with a several others while planning to commit a dacoity. According to the police, he had escaped while being taken for weapon recovery and was later re-arrested from his home.

He was reportedly taken to Manpur Hospital when his health started deteriorating and was then referred to the MY Hospital in Indore where he died during treatment.

The victim’s family has accused police of torturing him in custody. A judicial probe has been ordered.

Tribal Army, a socio-political group, slammed the police over the incident.

“Inside the Manpur police station in Indore district of Madhya Pradesh, the station in-charge and 5 policemen brutally tortured 19-year-old tribal youth Arjun Singare in custody. The young man was beaten up so much that the stick was broken, then he hit him with the handle of an axe. He was beaten to death. Shameful,” Tribal Army said in a tweet.

News24 is in possession of a video of the incident but has chosen not to publish it due to its graphic and brutal nature.
