On Thursday, Madhya Pradesh Congress leader Ajay Singh targeted state unit chief Jitu Patwari following the opposition party’s defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking to India Today, Singh insisted on a high-level review of the tenure of the state party president, Jitu Patwari. He highlighted that under Patwari’s leadership, the party not only faced a humiliating defeat but also witnessed a significant exodus of leaders and workers.
Further, he added that there should be a discussion on the measures taken to prevent them from leaving the party. He demanded finding reasons for the party’s washout in the elections.
Ajay, son of former Union Minister Arjun Singh, expressed concern that Congress workers are “demoralized and disappointed,” emphasizing that this is detrimental to the party’s future. He questioned why party veterans Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh did not campaign outside their home turfs and urged the leadership to assess who participated in election campaigning.
Singh criticized turncoats such as former Union Minister Suresh Pachouri and senior MLA Ramniwas Rawat. He stated that leaders who abandoned the party during times of crisis, like them, should never be readmitted, regardless of their status, due to their opportunistic and selfish behavior.
The Congress suffered defeat in all 29 parliamentary constituencies in the BJP-ruled state, including Kamal Nath’s stronghold Chhindwara.
