A young man in Uttar Pradesh has allegedly killed his mother and four sisters at a hotel in Lucknow after a family dispute. The incident took place on Tuesday, and the accused, named Arshad, has been arrested by the police.
The five family members were found dead with cuts on their wrists, and their woollen clothes were soaked in blood. The police believe that Arshad mixed intoxicants in their food before killing them. Some of the family members were strangled or suffocated, while the others were killed with a blade.
After committing the crime, Arshad recorded a video in which he explained why he did it. He said that he believed his neighbors were planning to take over their property in Agra and were also planning to sell his sisters to people in Hyderabad. Arshad said that he killed his mother and sisters to protect them from harm.
The police also mentioned that liquor was served to the family members before the incident took place. They have also named Arshad’s father, Badar, as a suspect in the case. However, Badar is still missing, and the police are looking for him.
The family, originally from Agra, had been staying at the hotel since December 30. The people who were killed have been identified as Arshad’s mother, Asma, and his four sisters, who were aged 9, 16, 18, and 19.
Lucknow’s top police officer, Raveena Tyagi, said, “The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and a preliminary investigation has revealed that a heated argument led to the murders. Once the probe is completed, we can reveal more information on the murderer’s motive.”
Reacting to the deaths, Samajwadi Party spokesperson Fakhrul Hasan Chand said, “It is sad that a family is no more. Unemployment, stress, and poverty could be a reason behind the murders. Our party stands by the victims and expresses sorrow over their death.”
The police arrived at the scene soon after being alerted and arrested the 24-year-old Arshad. The forensic team has secured the crime scene and collected DNA samples for investigation.
