The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) intends to enforce a two-month restriction on heavy vehicle traffic on the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway after Holi. A complete vehicle ban will be in place at specific access points until mid-May. NHAI will officially submit a traffic rerouting plan to senior officials and the traffic police. Regular traffic operations will resume once construction work is completed.
Traffic moving from Lucknow to Kanpur will use the Outer Ring Road via a connecting route near Daroga Khera, while traffic from Kanpur will need to follow the route to Dahi Chowki. The second vehicular route from Kanpur passes through Pradhan Dhaba (Bani) to Mohanlalganj, followed by Gosaiganj, before reaching the Purvanchal Expressway.
Official sources from NHAI confirmed that construction is currently underway on the Daroga Khera segment of the Outer Ring Road, along with the establishment of a slip road for direct vehicle access. The slip road construction is 80% complete, and NHAI expects it to be finished by the Holi holiday, as reported by Jagran.
Standing traffic along the elevated Daroga Khera to Bani route requires these diversions to facilitate the mounting of girders without interruption. Heavy vehicle congestion has slowed expressway construction, prompting NHAI to impose a strict traffic blockade. The daily traffic flow between Lucknow and Kanpur includes 100,000 heavy vehicles, while trailers and multi-axle trucks often become trapped, leading to extensive congestion. The Greenfield section of the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway follows a new route from Bani towards Hinaura, with construction progressing rapidly to minimize further disruptions.
