No BJP and Akali Dal alliance in Punjab
Discussions regarding an alliance between BJP and Akali Dal have proven unsuccessful. Consequently, the BJP will now participate independently in the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab. Previously, rumors were circulating about a potential collaboration between BJP and Akali, fueling speculation about their joint participation in the elections.
SAD and BJP were allies in the NDA for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Punjab but didn’t achieve their goals. Congress won eight seats, defying the pro-Modi trend seen elsewhere. SAD ended its partnership with BJP in September 2020 due to the controversial farm laws, which sparked widespread protests.
Punjab farmers have recently started a new protest demanding legal assurance for minimum support prices. The SAD’s core committee met on March 22 to finalize its election strategy, discussing both state and national political situations. Daljit Singh Cheema of SAD emphasized the importance of considering national events in their strategy discussions.
