Following a grueling six-week, seven-phase voting process, the results for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were announced yesterday. The BJP-led NDA secured 292 seats, surpassing the Opposition alliance – INDIA, which secured 232 seats. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to take oath on Saturday evening (June 8).
Both the NDA and the INDIA bloc will hold crucial meetings today to determine the path forward. The competition between the BJP and the INDIA alliance reflects a broader ideological struggle.
PM Modi hailed the election results as a ‘triumph for the world’s largest democracy’.
Despite setting an ambitious target of 370 seats (including 400+ with NDA partners), the BJP faced strong opposition from the Congress-led INDIA bloc. The opposition, with 232 seats, defied exit polls and significantly narrowed the BJP’s lead in key states.
Nitish Kumar and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu submitted a letter of support during the NDA meeting held at Prime Minister Modi’s residence. The NDA allies are set to stake their claim to form the government today, and Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah are expected to meet President Droupadi Murmu for this purpose.
