During his visit to Telangana on Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the 2024 Lok Sabha election would be a contest between Rahul Gandhi and Narendra Modi, representing a battle between ‘vote for jihad’ and ‘vote for vikas’.
During his rally in Telangana, Rahul emphasized that the election contrasts the INDIA bloc with “those aiming to alter or dismantle the Constitution.” In a social media video, Rahul also remarked that the election was “slipping away” from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking at a public meeting in Telangana’s Bhongir Lok Sabha constituency, Shah declared that the 2024 election would be a contest between Rahul Gandhi and Narendra Modi, highlighting it as a choice between ‘vote for jihad’ and ‘vote for vikas’.
He also characterized the election as a competition between Modi’s “Bharatiya guarantee” and Rahul’s “Chinese guarantee”.

Shah referred to the Congress, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) as a “triangle of appeasement”, stating, “They prevent the celebration of ‘Hyderabad Liberation Day’ (September 17). They oppose the CAA. They advocate running Telangana based on Sharia and Quran principles.”
He expressed confidence that while the BJP secured four Lok Sabha seats in Telangana in 2019, this time they would win 10 seats. “This achievement of double-digit seats here will aid PM Modi in surpassing 400 seats in Parliament. The Congress is spreading falsehoods, claiming that if PM Modi returns as PM, he will abolish reservations. However, PM Modi has been leading the country for the past 10 years without ending any reservations. It is the Congress party that reduced reservations for SCs, STs, and OBCs by allocating four per cent to Muslims. If BJP wins, we will increase reservations for SCs, STs, and OBCs,” Shah stated.
He also mentioned Modi’s efforts to enhance the textile industry in Bhongir. Shah highlighted that the government’s textile policy aims to strengthen the system at every stage – from “farm to fibre”, fibre to factory, factory to fashion, and fashion to exports. The Bhongir Lok Sabha seat is scheduled for polling on May 13.
Further criticizing the Congress, Shah remarked that the party fails to fulfill its promises. “PM Modi stands by his words and commitments. The Congress party halted the construction of Ram Mandir for 70 years. In just five years, PM Modi won the case, conducted bhoomi pooja, and performed the pran prathistha ceremony. PM Modi also revoked Article 370 to ensure our flag continues to fly in Kashmir indefinitely,” he stated.
