MD Sarwar Alam Wins the election with 23021 votes.
Located in Bihar’s Kishanganj district, it falls under the Kishanganj Lok Sabha seat and borders the Indo-Bangladesh corridor through West Bengal. The constituency was established in the year 2008 following the delimitation process and has since emerged as a Muslim-majority seat. This year, MD Sarwar Alam won on the seat with 23,021; throughout the counting day, Sarwar Alam maintained a lead in the contest. It was only during the initial stages that he trailed behind other candidates.
As per the 2020 Assembly elections, 72.40% of its total 2,50,134 registered voters were Muslims. By the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the number of registered voters had increased to 2,68,648. A notable feature of the constituency has been the presence of the ancient Sun Temple located in Badijan village. Discovered in 1987, the site includes a basalt statue of Surya mounted on seven horses, measuring approximately 5.5 feet.
The voter turnout here has remained consistent over the years, usually in the mid-60% range, as per IndiaTimes. In the year 2020, the turnout was close to 64.64%, comparable to the 65.46% recorded during the 2019 parliamentary polls. The voting patterns here have stayed predictably uniform. Due to the Muslim majority, all major parties ensure Muslim candidates contest elections from the constituency; only Muslim leaders have won the seat ever since its inception.
Kochadham has showcased a consistent voting pattern throughout previous elections. In both 2019 and 2024, AIMIM candidate Akhtarul Iman led in this segment. In the year 2024, his lead stood at 14,786 votes, despite finishing third overall in the Kishanganj Lok Sabha constituency.
