Delhi Dry Days: In anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and festivals, the Delhi government has issued a directive regarding dry days in the national capital. According to the directive, dry days will be enforced from 6 p.m. on April 24 until April 26. Given Delhi’s proximity to Uttar Pradesh and neighboring states, these dry days will extend within a 100-meter radius from Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar districts, and Baghpat in the NCT of Delhi.

The order from Delhi’s Excise department states, “Licensees will not be entitled to any compensation for adjustments made in the above list. They are required to prominently display this order at their licensed premises. Business establishments of licensees must remain closed on dry days.”
It’s noteworthy that dry days are scheduled in Delhi for various occasions including Id-ul-Fitr on April 11, Ram Navami on April 17, Mahavir Jayanti on April 21, Buddha Purnima on May 23, and Bakrid on June 17.

Previously, the Delhi government had announced six dry days within the capital city. The dry days include January 26 (Republic Day), February 24 (Guru Ravidas Jayanti), March 5 (Swami Dayanand Saraswati Jayanti), March 8 (Maha Shivaratri), March 25 (Holi), and March 29 (Good Friday). During these periods, the sale of alcohol is prohibited. Additionally, Uttar Pradesh declared a ‘dry day’ on January 22 due to the Ram Temple consecration event.
The Delhi excise commissioner holds the authority to designate dry days for religious festivals and significant commemorations in the country.
