Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced on Saturday the reopening of eight popular tourist destinations in the Valley

In a bid to revive tourism in the Kashmir Valley, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced on Saturday the reopening of eight popular tourist destinations in the Valley, which had been closed following a terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam on April 22. Speaking to reporters in South Kashmir, LG Sinha emphasized that the decision to reopen was made after careful assessment of the current situation.

“To ensure the safety of tourists, around 48 tourist destinations were temporarily closed as a precautionary measure,” Sinha said. “However, we are pleased to announce that these locations will be reopened for tourists in a phased manner.”

The initial phase of reopening will include scenic spots in Anantnag District, such as Betab Valley, Pahalgam, Verinag, Kokernag, and Achabal Gardens, along with parks in the Pahalgam market. In Srinagar, Badamwari, Duck Park, and Taqdeer Park near Hazratbal will also welcome visitors once again.

LG Sinha expressed optimism that the upcoming Amarnath Yatra would play a crucial role in revitalizing tourism in Kashmir. “I urge people to come forward and participate in this annual pilgrimage to make it a success,” he said. “This is your Yatra. It will contribute significantly to improving the local economy and reviving tourism.”
