CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury passed away on Thursday at 72. He was undergoing treatment for pneumonia at AIIMS, New Delhi.
Condolences have been pouring in since his passing, and now Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shared a heartfelt message on the demise of the CPI(M) Leader.
He wrote on X, “Grieved by the passing away of Shri Sitaram Yechury Ji. He was a leading light of the Left and renowned for his ability to connect across the political spectrum.” He further mentioned that the veteran leader also made a mark as an effective Parliamentarian.

President Droupadi Murmu Offers Heartfelt Condolences
Taking to X to express condolences, President Droupadi Murmu wrote, “Saddened to learn about the passing of CPI (M) General Secretary Shri Sitaram Yechury.” She expressed that Yechury made a significant impact with his distinct and influential voice, first as a student leader, then in national politics, and as a parliamentarian. Despite a committed ideologue, he won friends cutting across the party lines, she added.
