An incident took place on 6/10/25 where, in the court of Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, a lawyer tried to throw an Object at him. Security personnel in the court intervened and detained the lawyer and escorted him out of the court.
While being escorted out, the detained lawyer shouted, “Sanatan ka apmaan nahi sahega Hindustan”, a lawyer present in the courtroom told ANI. The attacker was being questioned by senior police officials, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of New Delhi and the DCP of the Supreme Court.

SC lawyer condemns the incident in response to CJI’s remarks
Supreme Court lawyer Rohit Pandey speculated that the attempt to attack was a reaction to Chief Justice CJI. Gavai remarks on Religious Deities. CJI Gavai’s Remarks on the Lord Vishnu idol in Khajuraho
Supreme Court had previously dismissed a plea seeking directions to reconstruct and install a seven-foot idol of ord Vishnu at the Javari Temple. Turning down the plea, the court had termed it a “Publicity Interest Litigation”
The Bench said that the issue fell under the jurisdiction of the Archaeological Survey of India. CJI Gavai had further mentioned that if you are not averse to Shaivism, you can still go and worship there… There is a very big linga of Shiva, one of the biggest in Khajuraho.”
His comments had, at the time, sparked widespread backlash on social media, prompting a necessity for clarification. CJI later explained that his statements were misrepresented, and reiterated his respect for all religions.
