Monsoon Forces Jharkhand Residents To Construct Road Without Government Support

Jharkhand: The monsoon season has started across the country, and in some areas, the roads have become very bad. In Telgaon Panchayat, Gumla, Jharkhand, the situation is similar. Even though the village is only about 3 km from the district headquarters, it still lacks proper roads. When it rains, the road becomes unusable, causing big problems for the villagers.

The villagers decided to repair the road themselves. They worked together to build a 3 km road from Phulwar Toli to Chaha Barha Toli. During the monsoon, the unpaved road fills with mud and water, making it very hard for students to get to school or college and for people to reach their workplaces. The villagers said that walking or riding a two or three-wheeler on this road during the rain is very difficult and dangerous, increasing the risk of accidents.

Rekha Kujur, a village resident, said that the villagers had repeatedly told the administration and local representatives about the road problems through written requests, but no action was taken. So, the villagers decided to fix the road themselves. Men, women, youth, and children all joined in. They raised money to pay for tractors, materials, and other expenses. The villagers complained that whenever they ask local representatives for help, they only get promises and no real action, leading to their decision to handle the repair work on their own.

Namita Lakra, another village resident, said that many people have had accidents because of the poor road condition. She added, “We have now managed to build a better road, but we hope the government will soon build a concrete road to make travel easier for everyone.”
