NEET Asprirant Dies By Suicide: In yet another tragic incident, a medical student hailing from Uttar Pradesh died by suicide in Kota, Rajasthan on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Tanvir. The 20-year-old was living in Kota for the past year with his father and sister. He was self-studying in the coaching hub. This tragic case marks the 26th such incident in the city this year.
A few days back, a 17-year-old girl, Priyam Singh, who was preparing for the NEET exam, decided to end her life. Priyam, hailing from Mau in Uttar Pradesh, had relocated to Kota approximately a year and a half ago with a singular goal in mind: to excel in the medical entrance exam. She was living independently in a rented apartment on Dakania Road, highlighting the challenges and pressures faced by young students who come to Kota for their exam preparations. After investigation, police found out that Priyam consumed poison on her way back from her coaching centre, a heartbreaking incident that sheds light on the mental and emotional struggles often endured by students in pursuit of their academic dreams.
For the unversed, Kota has witnessed a concerning and alarming surge in student suicides this year. In 2022, the city recorded 15 tragic cases of student suicides, highlighting the immense pressure and challenges faced by students pursuing competitive exams such as NEET and JEE. However, this year the situation has worsened as the number of student suicides has escalated to a distressing total of 26.
This marks the highest recorded suicide rate in Kota over the past eight years, shedding light on the pressing mental health issues and stressors faced by the thousands of students who migrate to this city annually to prepare for these demanding examinations.
