A fresh series of cobra sightings has sent fear into Kota, known for its coaching centers. On Friday, a cobra had entered the Akelgarh Water Filtration Plant, halting drinking water supply to several areas of the city. The incident left employees in a state of shock and ensured the suspension of water services for nearly two to three hours till the snake was safely removed.
Cobra Disrupts Water Supply At Filtration Plant
When the plant was due to start operating, a giant black cobra crawled into the water filtration plant and positioned itself on the panel box of an 11KV line. The employees were frightened by the appearance of the snake with its hood raised, and they promptly evacuated the plant. Water supply was suspended to thousands of households during the two-hour ordeal.
Snake Rescued By Expert Handler
Govind Sharma, the snake catcher, was summoned and rescued the nearly 2-hour-long 5-foot cobra. Then, the rescuers safely released the snake into the wild after it had swum back the distance it had covered earlier and restored water supply in the city.
Wild Animal Spots Increasing In Kota
The fact that Kota lies relatively close to forests makes the wild animals enter populated areas frequently. Snakes and lizards often visit the city, and sometimes crocodiles from the Chambal River also visit. These have been occasional. However, the recent rush of snakes has naturally raised concern in the minds of residents.
In response to the incident with the cobra, residents have urged for better safety measures and a preventive system to avoid future disruptions and encounters with wild animals, increasing their sightings in Kota.
