Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: The Kolkata Police denied the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) claims that the crime scene at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was “compromised.” They said the seminar hall, where a 31-year-old trainee doctor was raped and murdered earlier this month, was not tampered with.
During a Supreme Court hearing, the central probe agency claimed the crime scene was tampered with and that the victim’s family was misled into believing their daughter’s death was a suicide.
In response, the Kolkata Police explained that everyone seen in the viral photograph of the crime scene was properly authorized to be there.
The viral photo showed many people inside the seminar hall where the crime occurred.
Kolkata Police Deny Crime Scene Tampering
Indira Mukherjee, DCP Central with the Kolkata Police, said, “We are addressing the photo in question. The area was cordoned off, with the body behind it. I can provide the names of everyone in the picture who is part of the investigation team.”
The Kolkata Police also mentioned that the photo in question was taken on August 9, after the inquest was finished.
CBI Criticizes Hospital Handling
The CBI has also claimed that RG Kar Medical College and Hospital mishandled the case and lacked sensitivity. The probe agency suspects that even though the hospital administration knew the proper procedures, they dismissed Dr. Sandip Ghosh from his position as principal and did not secure the crime scene properly.
The forensic report indicated that Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, raped and killed the doctor. The crime occurred on August 9, when the partially clothed body of the trainee doctor, a second-year postgraduate student, was found in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
This horrific crime has led to widespread protests across India, including in Kolkata, with people demanding justice for the victim and stricter laws to prevent similar violence against women.
