Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: SC Orders Wikipedia To Remove Victim’s Name And Photo

The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued strict orders to Wikipedia to take down the Kolkata Victim's name and photo to maintain the dignity of the deceased.

Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued strict orders to Wikipedia to take down the Kolkata Victim’s name and photo to maintain the dignity of the deceased. This order came from the SC immediately when Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the top court that the Victim’s name and picture were still on the Wikipedia page. The CJI said Wikipedia has to take the necessary steps and comply with the orders issued.

SC Denied To Halt The Live Streaming Of The Case

Supreme Court started hearing a suo moto case related to Kolkata Doctor Rape Murder on Tuesday. During the proceeding, the West Bengal Government’s lawyer Kapil Sibal requested the court to halt the live-streaming of the case which the SC denied stating it as a matter of the public interest.

Kabil Sibal’s Co-Lawyers Face Threat

Sibal also said that the Lawyers in his chamber are receiving threats on social media and people on the ground are also making comments. He further added that the women lawyers in his chamber are also receiving threats of acid attack and rape.

On this matter, the SC assured that the apex court will intervene in the matter if required and will take the necessary steps.

A bench comprising of Chief Justice CY Chandrachud, JB Pardiwala, and Manoj Mishra is hearing the matter.
