Kolkata: In a significant development, the Calcutta High Court orders the transfer of RG Kar Medical Hospital’s ‘financial irregularities case’ to CBI. The case was earlier handed over to the Special Investigation Team. Akhtar Ali, the former deputy Superintendent of R G Kar Hospital filed a petition demanding an investigation into the financial misconduct.
Akhtar Ali said that from 2000 to 2023 under the ex-principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh, constant financial misconduct and illegal practices took place. CBI is directed to take over the case by 10 am on August 24 and begin further investigations. Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj has called for a progress report of the investigation within three weeks. The court will review the investigation report after a follow-up hearing on the case on September 17. Mamata Banerjee-led government announced the setting up of SIT to investigate the case on August 20.

Sanjay Roy Sent To 14-Days Judicial Custody
The main accused in the rape and murder of Kolkata trainee doctor, Sanjay Roy was sent to judicial custody for 14 days today and was produced before Kolkata’s Sealdah Court.
Government Hospitals were badly affected after junior doctor continued their protest for the 15th day in a row. Healthcare services were severely impacted due to the protest, despite the Supreme Court’s appeal to the doctors to resume their work.

Akhtar Ali’s Claim
Akhtar Ali said that from 2000 to 2023 under the ex-principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh, constant financial misconduct and illegal practices took place.
Ali claimed that he had filed a police complaint in this regard and had produced documentary evidence too. Despite his efforts, Ali said that the state government delayed actions against the misconduct.
