Family’s Defense and Allegations of Police Coercion
Roy’s mother, Malati Roy, has denied the allegations against her son. She claims that Roy confessed to the crime only under police pressure, asserting his innocence.

Crime Details and Autopsy Report
Roy, who works as a civic volunteer, was arrested on Saturday in connection with the rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Government Hospital in north Kolkata. The victim’s body was discovered in a seminar hall of the hospital. The autopsy report detailed extensive injuries, including bleeding from her eyes, mouth, and private parts, as well as injuries to various other body parts.
Legal Proceedings and Public Outrage
Roy faces charges under sections 64 (rape) and 103 (murder) of BNS and has been remanded to police custody until August 23. The case has provoked significant protests from doctors, nursing staff, and medical students across the city. Demonstrations have been held at RG Kar Medical College, National Medical College, and Medical College, Kolkata, as well as at district hospitals like Bardhaman Medical College and Bankura Sammilani Medical College. Protesters are calling for severe punishment for Roy and better security measures for women in hospitals.
