The harrowing ordeal came to light after authorities noticed a sudden significant transaction in the bank account of the accused, Rupali Mandal. The incident took place in the Anandpur area of Kolkata.

Following the suspicious financial activity, the police launched an investigation and interrogated Rupali Mandal, the mother involved in the heart-wrenching act.

Initially, Rupali resisted cooperating with the authorities, but under mounting pressure, she eventually broke down and admitted to the heinous crime. She confessed to selling her newborn daughter for an amount of Rs 4 lakh.

In a report by India Today, the police have arrested three individuals, including Rupali Mandal’s mother, in connection with this shocking human trafficking case.

The other two individuals arrested are Roopa Das and Swapna Sardar, whose involvement was disclosed by Rupali during interrogation.

An aspect that makes this case even more heart-rending is the story of Kalyani Guha, the woman who purchased the child.

Kalyani is reported to be childless and has been married for 15 years without having any children of her own. Desperate to fulfill her dream of motherhood, Kalyani contacted Rupali, who agreed to sell her newborn daughter.

The incident has raised concerns about the issue of human trafficking, prompting authorities to take decisive action. As reported by India Today, the police have established a dedicated team to monitor and combat such heinous crimes.
