After Delhi Metro, Kolkata Metro also announces that their metro facility will start in the city after 2.30 pm on Holi (March 14). According to Kolkata Metro, the services along the Dakshineswar-New Garia section, also referred to as the North-South corridor, will start at 2.30 pm.
On a normal working day, 262 services run on this corridor; however, public transport remains generally suspended during the morning hours of Holi throughout the state. About Esplanade-Howrah Maidan, the total number of services run by the East-West corridor is 42 (21 up and down each), and it will operate from 3 pm on Friday. On a normal day, this stretch has 130 services.
On the Sealdah-Sector 5 stretch of the East-West corridor, a total of 22 services (11 up and down each) will run from 3 pm on March 14. Under normal conditions, 106 services run on weekdays along this stretch. Earlier, services were suspended fully for two days on the East-West corridor of the Kolkata Metro on March 8 and 9, according to an official statement.
This two-day suspension was the third such incident in the span of one month to carry out the evaluation of the signalling and communication system of the CBTC along the stretch of Howrah Maidan and Salt Lake Sector V. The services were also suspended from February 13 to 16 and from February 20 to 23.
Holi 2025: Every year Holi falls on different dates and different days, with the varying dates based on the Hindu lunisolar calendar. This year, the festival of Holi is due to be celebrated on Friday, March 14, 2025, and the day before Holi, or Choti Holi, is celebrated on Thursday, March 13. It is a day to welcome spring, bid farewell to winter, and rejoice in friendship.
Notably, DMRC also announced on Tuesday that metro services will be resumed after 2.30 pm on March 14 on all metro lines.
